It isn’t just benefits, though. A sluggish lifestyle has major health consequences, and sitting all day at work is a huge health hazard. According to an article in the Washington Post, sitting all day, every day can lead to heart disease, muscle degeneration, disk damage in your back and neck, tight hips, and an increase in colon and breast cancer. 1. Take a top-down approach

4. Make the time
Schedule a company-wide wellness time three days per week where employees can voluntarily participate in a running club, yoga class, meditation class, or a game of pickup soccer.
5. Be flexible
In addition to making the time, make sure your managers are flexible about giving people time to take care of their physical and mental health.
6. Make it a challenge
Set up a challenge and ask teams to sign up for the competition. Get your teams running with a couch to 5k program and hold a 5k where the winning team gets a free lunch. Host a push-up challenge where the team who can do the most push-ups at the end of 4 weeks wins movie passes.
7. Be aware; be inclusive
Due to health, physical limitations, and other reasons, not everyone can participate in a traditional wellness program. Offer alternative means of participation, such as a weekly mindfulness class, a knitting class, or book club. Remember, reducing stress in the workplace is also a health benefit.
8. Offer wearables
We all need a little reminder now and then, and wearable fitness trackers are an easy and effective way to do just that. Fitbit and Garmin currently make two of the top-rated wearables, but depending on your needs, almost any tracker can get the job done.
9. Offer reminders
Remember all those negative consequences of sitting too much? Encourage your employees to download (and use) browser extensions or apps to remind them to get up and move during the day.
